Amish White Bread

I love to make home made bread and I am always looking for a good, quick recipe. And this recipe is just that!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 cups bread flour

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, and then stir in yeast. Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam.
  2. Mix salt and oil into the yeast. Mix in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl, and turn dough to coat. Cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
  3. Punch dough down. Knead for a few minutes, and divide in half. Shape into loaves, and place into two well oiled 9x5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen 1 inch above pans.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes to 40 minutes.

Ribbon Flip Flops

I have a little bit of spring fever, and I am ready to break out the flip flops! These ribbon flip flops are so easy, and super cute! I went to Hobby Lobby (love that store) and purchased a pair of plain flip flops for my 6 year old daughter. I already had a bunch of cute ribbon and cut strips about 7 or 8 inches long and then just tied them into knots on the flip flops. Such a cheap idea to add some fun to a pair of simple flip flops!

2011 Grocery Budget

I made a goal (not a resolution) to keep my grocery budget at $225 a month for 2011. I know this is very difficult, especially when you have a husband that insists on eating meat  with every meal! Last month I went over budget because I went a little coupon crazy and felt like I needed to get all the deals. But, I am now realizing that you don't need 10 bottles of dish soap, even if it is a good deal. I did stock up on some case lot stuff so I am building a little food storage, and it will help lower my food bill for other months. So far for this month I am under budget and am hoping that I am going to meet my goal!  Couponing definitely takes time and work, but if you are a stay at home mom and trying to make ends meet it is totally worth it! I would love to help anyone who is just getting started or thinking about getting started with couponing.

Darling Felt Flower

Here is a preview of a darling felt flower I am working on. There is so many different things that you could use these for. Stick them in your hair, add them to a pair of flip flops or use them on a craft project. I will be putting on a tutorial so you can learn to make these, or contact me if you would like to purchase them from me. I am also working on several other fun things (cute little girl skirts). So make sure you are following along and check back often. Thanks!

The BEST Pumpkin Roll

I know the holidays are over, but at my house we could eat a pumpkin roll every day! A lot of people don't attempt making these because they think they are to hard. The truth is they are really simple, there is a few steps but it is well worth it!!

Preparation: Preheat oven to 375. Grease 15 x 10 inch jelly roll pan; line with wax paper. Grease and flour paper. Sprinkle a thin, cotton kitchen towel with powdered sugar.

Ingredients:
1/4 c. powdered sugar (to sprinkle on towel)
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs
1 c. granulated sugar
2/3 c. pumpkin

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt in small bowl.

Next, beat eggs and granulated sugar in larger mixer bowl until thick. Then beat in pumpkin.

Add the flour mixture.

Spread evenly into prepared pan.

Bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until top of cake spring back when touched. (if using a dark-colored pan, begin checking for doneness at 11 minutes.) Immediately loosen and turn cake onto prepared towel.Carefully peel off paper.

Roll up cake and towel together, starting with narrow end. Let cool for a few hours.

While it is cooling make the filling.
Ingredients:
1 pkg. cream cheese, at room temp
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
6 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Powdered sugar (optional for decoration)

Beat cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, butter and vanilla until smooth.
Carefully unroll cake. Spread cream cheese mixture over cake. Re roll Cake. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least one hour. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.

Now Enjoy!!

Cute Valentine Gift

I wish I could say I came up with this idea all on my own, but I didn't. I saw one similar on another site, but added my own fun touches! This is such a cute idea for teacher gifts, neighbor gifts or really for anyone!!!

It was pretty simple to do.

Step 1. Purchase 6 back of Crush (Walmart $3.00)

Step 2. Drink the Crush :)

Step 3. Spray paint the holder red.

Step 4. Hot glue ribbon on.

Step 5. Add ribbon, flowers, or anything to dazzle it up.

Step 6. Fill the bottles with candy.

I decided to just give 1 bottle to each teacher and it still a cute idea!

Be creative and have fun!

Need A Fun Dinner Idea?

Yesterday I was having a hard time deciding what to do for dinner. I had pulled out hamburger but wasn't sure what to make. We needed a change from spaghetti or hamburger patties. I decided to make nachos. I have to say they turned out excellent, and my husband LOVED them! (and they were very filling!)
What you need:

1 pound of hamburger
1 bag of tortilla chips
1 packet of taco seasoning mix (mix with about 1/2 cup of water)
1 can of refried beans
1 can of mexican stewed tomatoes
1 small block of velveeta cheese
1 can of olives
(if you are extra naughty cheddar cheese)

First brown your meat, add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion salt and whatever other seasonings you like. When meat has browned a little bit, add packet of seasoning mix & water. Let simmer. Next, mix can of beans and stewed tomatoes together (my husband prefers the tomatoes pureed) heat it up. Melt your velveeta cheese then start layering everything together. I wish I would have taken a picture because they turned out great! You can also add lettuce, onions, tomatoes or whatever else you like! Experiment and have fun!
